Free Courses in January 2012 - Wolverhampton Voluntary Sector Council 

Please see below for information and click here to see a poster for four courses that will be running in January. All courses are free of charge for Wolverhampton residents who are aged 18 or over and in receipt of benefits or are economically inactive, individuals attending the course will be asked to provide proof of benefits at the start of the course (this can be obtained from the Job Centre).

Places are limited so please get in touch as soon as you can to avoid disappointment. If you are not already registered with Wolverhampton Volunteers you will need to do so by completing the Volunteer Registration Form or coming in to one of our ‘drop-in’ sessions between Monday – Friday, 10am -2pm.

A brief description of the available courses are below:

Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS)
Learners will gain knowledge and understanding of the teacher’s role and approaches to teaching and learning, plan learning sessions and manage learning. The achievement of this level 4 Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector will confirm that you have a good understanding of the essential aspects of the teacher/trainer role, can organize and manage effective learning and have developed professionally through on-going reflection and evaluation.

Certificate in Retail Knowledge Level 2
This course is aimed at people who have no or limited experience of working in the retail sector and wish to get into this area.Multiple choice exam at the end of the course.

Induction to an Early Years Care Setting Level 1
Level 1 package aimed at people who have no/limited experience of working in the early years sector.
Mandatory units:
The value of play for babies and young people
Management and organisation in an Early Years Care setting
One optional unit from the following
Introduction to community development in an Early Years Care setting
Roles and responsibilities in an Early Years Care setting
This course also includes Level 1 in Workskills

Health and Social Care – Preparing to Work in Adult Care Level 2
Principles of personal development in adult social care settings
Principles of diversity, equality and inclusion in adult social care settings
Safeguarding and protection in adult social care settings
Duty of Care in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings
Understanding the role of Social Care Worker
Person centered approaches
Health and safety in adult social care settings
Handling information
Communication in adult social care settings
Exams for each module will be taken at the end of the course and will involve multiple choice questions.
