FOCUSING ON HEALTH IN THE CITY

Proposals to transform the management of local healthcare services, a fall in teenage pregnancy rates and art used as therapy in mental health, are featured in this month’s issue of Health Focus.

The free four-page community newspaper by Wolverhampton City Primary Care Trust will be distributed to households and public places across Wolverhampton from May 10.

The newspaper will also be available from the Health and Community Care Information Service in King Street, GP practices, hospital waiting areas and health centres or can be read or downloaded from the PCT’s website www.wolvespct.nhs.uk

This issue also highlights:

Please note that owing to communications restrictions imposed for the election period there has been a time delay between the printing and distribution of Heath Focus. During that time there have been two updates to articles included in the publication.

Wolverhampton’s Food Dudes initiative won a national Chief Medical Officer’s Award, announced on May 12.  See separate press release on the award.

  1. Front page: Stakeholders have say on transforming healthcare.

An update on transforming community services was discussed at the PCT’s board meeting on May 10. Members agreed the preferred organisational form for learning disability services is for services to be integrated with an acute mental health provider and the preferred provider is Sandwell Mental Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust.

It was stressed, however, that local health and social care services for people with learning disability would continue to be integrated with those provided by Wolverhampton City Council.

Members also agreed the revised preferred organisational form for health and wellbeing services would be for integration with an acute NHS provider with the preferred provider being the Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust.

Proposals have to be approved by NHS West Midlands (strategic health authority) and will also be subject to formal consultation.
