Ceremony to mark start of work on new Castlecroft Medical Centre
The start of work on a new £1.8 million medical centre in Castlecroft, Wolverhampton, will be marked at a special ‘groundbreaking ceremony’ this Thursday, 31 January.
The new Castlecroft Medical Practice, being developed by Primary Asset on the site of the former St Pius X Church at the junction on Windmill Lane and Castlecroft Avenue, will provide new premises for the practice of Dr Wagstaff and partners, currently based in Castlecroft Road.
The new premises will provide modern facilities for staff and patients including a spacious reception and waiting area, incorporating a children’s play area; twelve consulting rooms, two treatment rooms, a minor operations room, space for health staff such as health visitors, a district nurse team and midwife, additional offices and 42 car parking spaces. The centre will include a piece of bespoke public art which is being commissioned through a public consultation process.
The medical centre is part of Wolverhampton City Primary Care Trust’s Strategic Services Development Plan which will bring about the largest transformation of health and social care services across the city.
The Windmill Community Centre, adjacent to the medical centre, will remain open and the car park will be upgraded providing much needed off-road parking for the community centre users. In recognition of the loss of public open space, the developer Primary Asset is also making a contribution to Wolverhampton City Council and this will be allocated to improvements at Twentyman Field in Castlecroft.
Jon Crockett, chief executive of Wolverhampton City Primary Care Trust, said: “I am delighted that the work is due to commence on Castlecroft Medical Centre. This will be the fourth new health facility developed as part of a multi-million pound investment to improve healthcare provision across the city over the next five years. The development at Castlecroft
will make a real difference to patients and enable the medical team to deliver a wider range of services in a much improved environment.”
Dr Richard Roberts, from Castlecroft Medical Practice, said: ”The new medical centre will be a very welcome improvement from our existing premises, which we have outgrown. We are sure that all our patients will be impressed with the new surgery, where we will aim to continue our comprehensive care, together with developing additional services.”
