Size Zero
What is size zero?
Size zero is a US clothing size which is the same as a size 4 in the UK. To fit clothes in this size requires a waist measurement of 23 inches, which is the average for an 8 year old.
In the last few years, it has become fashionable for models and celebrities to achieve this goal.
Most people are not meant to be this thin and trying to achieve this perceived ideal could put your body at risk from loss of periods, hair falling out, dry skin and thinning bones.
Parents can get an indication of their child’s weight status by having them checked against a standard growth chart and discussing with a health professional. Parents also have the opportunity to see a result for their child in their reception year and year 6, as school nurses undertake measurements as part of their role.
