Healthy Eating
Wolverhampton Food Health Team
Between 2001 and 2009 the award winning team supported the Wolverhampton community to understand their barriers to eating healthily and make the healthy choice the easier choice.
The team is now part of the Healthy Lifestyles Department, The Royal Wolverhampton Hospital Trust. The focus of their work is now the Maternal and Early Years Healthy Weight Service. Pregnant women who have an unhealthy weight at booking are supported to limit weight gain during pregnancy. Following delivery, support is still provided to lose weight, help with feeding issues regarding breast feeding and weaning and identify any lifestyle behaviour changes within the family. Practical support can be given on issues to do with cooking and shopping.
Whilst midwives refer pregnant women who meet BMI criteria at booking, or health visitors refer following delivery, women can also self refer by contacting 01902 443083.
Criteria for referral:
BMI = 30 or more for any ethnicity other than Asian or Chinese women
BMI = 28 or more for Asian or Chinese women
