What is Dementia?
Dementia is a syndrome that is associated with the ongoing decline of the brain and its abilities.
These include:
- Memory
- Thinking
- Language
- Understanding
- Judgement
- People with dementia may also become apathetic, have problems controlling their emotions or behaving appropriately in social situations. Dementia is usually progressive and the symptoms will gradually get worse over time.
There are several causes of dementia including Alzheimer’s Disease, Vascular Dementia, mixed dementias and Lewy Body Dementia which are the most common.
